Today I had the privilege of being invited to attend a seminar that was some distance away. As someone with a life long passion for studying martial arts, I have eagerly trained in several forms. However, on this occasion, I chose to explore a practical street defence called Krav Maga.
The decision to attend this style of self defence had been on my mind for over a year, and it was serendipitous that I received an e-mail notification about it from their mailing list. The seminar was offered at a very reasonable price, and after conducting thorough research, I discovered that the techniques were pertinent given the increasing incidents of knife crime.
I approached the workshop with an open mind, and as the instructor shared his background and experiences, I was immediately struck by his expertise. despite my years training in my favourite hobby tai chi, this workshop exceeded my expectations. We delved into various self-defence strategies, including releasing from wrist grabs, hair pulls and defending against someone on top of you.The efficiency and simplicity of these techniques, devoid of any complex or elongated movements, left a lasting impression on me. The supportive environment, the practical and serious approach resonated with me.
Furthermore, I found it invaluable that there was a comprehensive discussion on the legal aspects and what is permissible under the UK law. Fortunately, several police officers were present to provide their insights on this matter. The venue was spacious with padded flooring providing a safe environment for practising the fierce techniques.
Remarkably, the cost of the training was offered at a nominal fee, further motivating me to embark on this journey of feeling more comfortable under pressure. The opportunity to be instructed by a marine was indeed a privilege, as he shared such valuable insights on reading the environment and being situationally aware. One of the invaluable life lessons imparted was the importance of acknowledging that not everyone behaves the same as ourselves, illustrating the complexities of reality.
I highly recommend exploring Krav Maga for anyone looking to feel safe walking the streets. As always with love and light
